
How to Pick the Right Infrared Heater for Your Bathroom
Nobody likes stepping out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom. It’s the worst. But here’s the thing: just buying the most powerful heater isn’t the answer. If you overdo it, you’re just wasting electricity and making the room feel like a sauna. We use short-wave infrared technology because it doesn’t bother trying to warm up all the air in the room. Instead, it beams heat directly onto you and the surfaces around you. It’s a much faster way to get warm.
Getting the Wattage Right
You have to match the power to the size of the room. If you’ve got a tiny powder room (under 4m²), a single 400W to 600W lamp is plenty. Trust me, don’t throw a 1200W unit in there. You’ll hit the temperature limit almost instantly, and the heater will keep clicking on and off. That constant cycling just wears out the parts faster. For mid-sized bathrooms (4m² to 8m²), you have two choices. You can go with one 1200W unit right where you spend the most time, or split it between two 600W lamps. If you’re dealing with a massive master bath (over 10m²), you’ll need a few different heat points. If you rely on one giant lamp, you’ll end up with one scorching “hot spot” while your toes are still freezing in the corners.
Dealing with Steam and Heat
Bathrooms are wet. Really wet. That’s why we build these units to IP65 standards. We use sealed gaskets and tempered glass to make sure steam and splashes don’t get into the electrical guts of the machine. But there’s a catch. Because the unit is sealed tight to keep water out, the heat gets trapped inside the housing. You need to make sure there’s enough breathing room in your ceiling void. If the air can’t move up there, the driver might overheat.
Saving a Bit of Cash
If you want to keep your electric bill down, don’t just go big. Think in zones. Wire your lamps to separate switches. That way, you only turn on the heat exactly where you’re standing. It’s a simple trick, but it keeps the load on your circuit low and saves you money every month.
