When we build infrared heaters for bathrooms or outdoor spots, an IP66 rating is just the starting point. Sure, it keeps the insides dry, but that’s the easy part. The real headache? The light. You want heat that actually sinks into the skin, but you don’t want a lamp that feels like a spotlight in your eyes. This is a huge deal when you’re thinking about kids or babies, whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours.
The Trick to the Glow
Most short-wave lamps are just… blinding. They blast out this intense visible light that feels harsh. To fix that, we use a specific kind of quartz glass with a special coating. Think of it like a filter. It blocks the glare but lets the heat slide right through. We shift the wavelength so you get that cozy warmth without the “staring into the sun” feeling. Now, there’s a catch. Filtering the light does drop the raw heat intensity a tiny bit, but it’s a trade we’re happy to make to keep things safe for a home.
Built for the Splash Zone
Since these live in wet areas, they have to be tough. An IP66 build means dust can’t get in and heavy water sprays won’t break it. We use heavy-duty gaskets on the wiring so moisture doesn’t sneak into the terminals. Inside, the heating element sits in a precision-blown quartz tube. The seals where that tube meets the frame have to be perfect. If even a tiny bit of air leaks in, the filament burns out in a heartbeat.Boom. Dead heater.
A Few Tips for Setup
You can’t just toss these into any ceiling and call it a day. Because we’ve tuned the heat for safety, where you mount them matters a lot. If they’re too low, you’re risking a burn. Too high? The heat just vanishes into the air before it ever reaches you. We’re pretty strict about the distance specs so that “soft light” and the warmth actually work together. One last thing: check your circuit breaker. These lamps pull a decent amount of power the second they kick on, so make sure your electrical setup can handle the surge.
