
Keeping Things Warm (and Safe) in the Shower
Let’s be honest: putting a heater in a shower or a steamy bathroom is a bit like playing with fire—or in this case, water and electricity. We all know those two don’t get along. That’s why we don’t mess around with the build quality. We use an IP55 rating for these units. In plain English? It means the casing keeps dust out and can take a spray of water from pretty much any angle without breaking a sweat. It’s about peace of mind.
Why we use quartz (and why it matters)
If you’ve ever dropped a cold glass into a hot dishwasher, you know what happens. It shatters. That’s “thermal shock,” and it’s the biggest enemy of bathroom heaters. To stop that from happening, we use explosion-proof quartz tubes. Quartz is a beast—it doesn’t really expand or shrink when the temperature swings wildly. It just handles it. And if a tube ever does give out? The “explosion-proof” part means the glass stays contained or breaks into dull pieces. It’s a safety net you hope you never need, but you’ll be glad it’s there.
Getting the heat where it belongs
These aren’t your typical space heaters that just blow warm air around the room. These use shortwave infrared. It feels different. Instead of waiting for the air to warm up, you feel the heat hitting your skin almost instantly. We’ve dialed in the wattage so they heat up fast, which actually helps stop condensation from fogging up the lens. One quick tip: make sure you wire these into a GFCI circuit. Because these pull a lot of power, the wiring gets hot. A GFCI is your best friend here.
A few things to keep in mind during install
Here’s the trade-off: because the IP55 seal is so tight to keep water out, the unit is basically airtight. That means heat can get trapped inside the housing if you aren’t careful. You get the waterproof protection, but you lose that natural airflow. When you’re mounting it, leave a little bit of a gap between the heater and the ceiling. It keeps the heat from soaking into your building’s structure and lets the unit breathe.
