Why We Use Infrared in the Bathroom (And it’s Not Just About the Warmth)
When most people think about infrared lamps in a bathroom, they just think of a way to stop shivering when they step out of the shower. But for us, it’s about something much more annoying: mold. In a steamy bathroom, the real enemy isn’t the cold—it’s the dampness that clings to your walls.
Drying the Room, Not Just the Air
Most heaters just warm up the air. The problem is that the air stays warm, but your tiles stay freezing. That’s how you get condensation. The steam hits the cold wall, turns back into water, and sits there. We do things differently. We use short-wave infrared (SWIR). Instead of fighting the air, these waves go straight through the moisture and hit the hard surfaces—your walls, your ceiling, your floors. It warms the actual materials of the room. When the walls are warm, water can’t settle on them. It basically pushes the moisture back into the air, where your vent can actually grab it and pull it outside. It’s a much cleaner way to keep your grout and silicone seals from turning into a breeding ground for mold.
The Nitty-Gritty Stuff
Bathrooms are tough on hardware. The constant switch from freezing to steaming can crack cheap glass. That’s why we use high-grade quartz. It handles the thermal shock without breaking a sweat. Size-wise, we keep these units small so they tuck away into your ceiling without looking bulky. But don’t let the size fool you. Most of our tubes run between 400W and 800W. It’s enough punch to dry out a small bathroom in a matter of minutes.
A Quick Warning on Your Wiring
Here is the catch. These lamps pull a decent amount of power. If you’re planning to put three or four 800W lamps in one room, you can’t just plug them into any old outlet. If you overload a standard residential circuit, you’re going to trip your breaker the second you turn them on. If you’re going for a multi-lamp setup, just do yourself a favor and run a dedicated line. It’s a bit more work upfront, but it beats sitting in the dark because you wanted a warm bathroom.
